Blue for Me and Blue for You

I want you to remember the very first time you opened your very first box of Crayola Crayons, I’ll never forget mine. I was lucky enough to receive from Santa Clause the deluxe 64 crayon version for my very first color fix. I clumsily fondled the box while I struggled to open it for the very first time.
When I finally pried it open, my little brain couldn’t comprehend all the colors stacked neatly in smaller boxes. I actually paused for a moment admiring the organized wax sticks all sharpened to the exact point needed to begin my life as a self-proclaimed artist. Without hesitation, I brought the box to my nose and inhaled all the hues at once and from that moment on I was hooked.
People ask me what my favorite color is? I just shake my head and say, “All of them,” even though I love each in its own distinct way, there is one color that is my first go to in almost every painting or sketch I’ve completed. The many hues of blue are the first color I spread because I feel extremely comfortable with the way my eyes see any tinge of blue.
Based on what science says, there are 144 shades of blue and y’all I gotta say, each and every tone of blue can, does and will hypnotize me while I’m deep in my imagination journeys. I will literally get sucked into my own little world from the get-go when I use any blue as the foundation to my picture. Trust me, I’ve tried other colors as the main background and blue is definitely the winner when it comes to opening the doorway to my imagination.
You don’t have to be an artist to be part of blue for it surrounds you. Blue envelopes your subconscious without even knowing it as you travel throughout your day. I don’t care who you are, I betcha buttons to beans, you have looked up to the sky and you didn’t want to take your gaze off the blueness of the moment. It captures you at any water's edge when the sun hits a certain way to create a solid blue backdrop for the scenery around you to be reflected off the water surface like a mirror.
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel by air and sea. Both ways are opposites of each other; however, there is one common tie that binds and that’s blue. Blue can span as far as the eye can see. Blue in these moments can literally be the only color you see. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll be able to witness the blues of the sky and sea sometimes emerging together as one.
Yes indeed, blue has been a staple color for my excursions and hopefully yours too. I have come to realize that it would be a sad, mundane, drabby and dull world without the color blue. Don’t you agree?
